For his own sake, since there's something comfortable about having Gorgug's physical proximity to near - partially because he's a friend, and partially because he's one of the few people Fabian can hug who's actually bigger than him, and there's something safe and comforting about that - but also for Gorgug's own sake.
Even if the other is doing a little better now, surely he can still use hugs. Especially from Fabian. If he proves he's still more than willing to touch Gorgug, then who could actually be disgusted by Gorgug at this point, right?
