[ Fabian comes up with the kind of ideas Gorgug could never. That's what stands out to Gorgug in Fabian's cheeky idea, moreso than anything towards jealousy or confusion. The tone does help, makes it funny, and Gorgug, even if his boyfriend does love to preen, would never take that idea as serious.
Maybe. He'll have to think about it later, with more time.
For right now, the sap takes all of Gorgug's attention. Surprising, with it showing in Gorgug's eyes, and that's what he takes time to process: because there's a lot of people in Etraya, and there could be someone better to pick. Or is it hearing Fabian say that he would pick Gorgug at all that stands out in that?
Fabian would pick him. And there's a declaration in that, that Gorgug is willing to take serious. His smile warm, soft, a little distracted with his gaze that lowers for a blink but then returns to Fabian.
He puts his hands around to the small of his back. ]
I love you too, [ he says, before he can back out. The words a test, that he almost thinks he should ask permission for, but also doesn't want to--that he hopes sound okay from his mouth, and that their relationship is at a point where Fabian thinks it sounds okay, too.
Singular, that is. Because he seems to refuse to let go of the other's hand, even in the middle of these dramatics. He's only throwing up his other hand to show that he has no idea! That it's a silly idea to even assume that everything out there has a name, clearly!
(This is the same guy who thought maids didn't dream, after all.) ]
[ Gorgug isn't letting go, either, though he's starting to look at the food right in front of them that's being forgotten--glancing at it, really, between Fabian and his paused action of attending to it. He wants to eat, but-- ]
There's words you can use to call them-- bullets, robot arm, robot lizard, a helmet...
[ It's the same thing, Fabian! The same thing! Beat his logic!! ]
[ Honestly, there's so much stuff in the manor that Fabian believes pretty much anything could be in there. It's not like money is an objection - and even more so, it's not like Fabian really knows the monetary value of.. anything at all.
So the answer comes out easily, even though Fabian can't be certain. After all-- ]
I haven't seen everything in there. It's so big. [ Gorgug, you could go on a treasure hunt in there.. Maybe you could even find robots!!! (Doubtful.)
Fabian is also totally making himself comfortable and properly cuddling Gorgug over here, but don't call him out on it. Ssh. It's a secret. Secret cuddling. ]
It's not as if we could go back and look for one though. They are herding us here. They gave Dean a little bit of power, and now he is acting like a dictator, even though he was fine before.
[ Granted, Fabian could bring up something else. Like how Gorgug may as well just drop the disguise if he's determined to bring attention to himself in some way all the same - because there's no way people won't stare as much at an awkward dance in public like this as they would at a half-orc, in Fabian's opinion. The awkward dance is way more of a crime to public decency!!
But considering he was thinking about this earlier when Gorgug asked him to come with him in the first place, he can't help but point it out now. It feels more natural in the conversation than having to bring it up himself later. ]
Sure, Fabian was being very sappy only a moment ago. On purpose. And it's not like what he was saying is technically all that far from what Gorgug is saying here - in an objective sense, anyway. It's different in Fabian's mind, and it makes him mentally stumble the second he hears Gorgug say those words.
Not that he tries to draw away from the other's hold or anything. It's more that the half-elf seems to freeze in said hold, staring at Gorgug with one very wide eye, unblinking in sheer surprise.
And with cheeks that are rapidly starting to grow darker and darker as blood rushes through them. It's not just shock, after all.
It's definitely fluster. ]
D-- Did I-- Did I say that?
[ Maybe it's not so much that he minds Gorgug saying those words, as much as he's just flustered about the idea of saying them himself...
Don't worry, Gorgug. This is just a dumb kind of freaking out, rather than rejection. You know how bad Fabian is with feelings. He's an idiot. ]
Sure, [ Gorgug says, like he does remember, but actually knowing which instance of 'I don't want to dance' that Fabian is referring to is a pain to recall. It doesn't matter enough to Gorgug to think or recall, either, since there's a more important point that he follows along with: ]
But I want to dance now. With you. [ Will he always want to dance? No. But right now, in this date with his boyfriend!! ] I mean, we can dance somewhere with music than right now, but-- I'm in the mood.
[ He wants to dance with Fabian. But maybe there's a more important question than even his point had been, and Gorgug considers it after a moment. ]
[ Gorgug looks aside, bashful as he confirms that I love you is what he heard in Fabian's painted scenario. Bashful, but not questioning his own ears, even if there's the possibility that Fabian might take it back; he could react and say or do anything next, and Gorgug wonders if he wants to help give Fabian an out. Does he want to give himself an out? He doesn't think Fabian looks mortified, but...
This kind of intimacy--romantic intimacy--has Gorgug feeling its full fluster in himself, as well. He likes Fabian. He's okay with saying that he loves Fabian. Isn't that the point of dating? Where you no longer question if you're just doing some exclusive thing with just a friend than an actual romantic partner, like some kind of elaborate friends with benefits routine.
They're together, and Gorgug likes it. He wants to wake up next to Fabian and go out on dates with him, and he wants them to snuggle up close while watching fireworks at night, or something like that. ]
I can take it back, if it's too soon, [ Gorgug offers; slowly, but also: ] But I still like you a lot.
[ And that's just another way of saying the same thing, in this instance. ]
[ The cuddling is happening around them, and to them. It's not something that needs fussing over, anyway; Gorgug enjoys this contact that he's been missing out on, though it's a shame about how wet they are, and not in a fun way. But Gorgug dips his head against Fabian's, feels some skin against skin, and that's nice. They're together again. ]
Is that the guy with the cool car?
[ This, apparently, is all that Gorgug remembers about Dean. Tell him more, boyfriend! Give him the deets! ]
Not super long, but it's definitely noticeable. It's like there's some stuff shifting around in Fabian's head, some parts slowly clicking into place as he realizes: ]
.. all.. that kitchen stuff has names? [ He doesn't even sound offended or anything. Or trying to blame Gorgug for the existence of weird names.
Fabian just sounds baffled. Like his world is being turned upside down in this moment.
(This is the extremely sexy guy you're dating, Gorgug.) ]
Though the question at the forefront of Fabian's mind right now is something much more like right now? It's not really like Fabian of all people has any hesitation about dancing out in public, it's just.. right here, without music, just rawdogging the dance? That's definitely not something he expected from Gorgug.
But the longer he stares at the other's face, searching it for something, some sign, the more Fabian realizes he isn't really seeing something there that would give him any cause to say no to this. Gorgug doesn't look uncomfortable, as far as he can see. ]
Sure.
[ Maybe not the most enthusiastic Fabian has ever sounded about anything, but he's still trying to wrap his head around the situation. Sssh, let him cook.. ]
How do you want to do this? [ That's the downside of never having danced much with Gorgug before: Fabian has no idea of what the other likes in that department. Other than that dorky dad dance he showed only a moment ago. ] Ballroom style? Romantic dancing?
[ Fabian says that rather quickly. Awkwardly quickly, too. Because he means the no to be for I can take it back, but it stumbles out right after Gorgug is voicing the period at the end of but I still like you a lot, Fabian's cheeks still flushed as he tries to voice words that feel like they are leaving his mouth so much more slowly than they have any right to.
He shakes his head. ]
No, I-- It's--
[ His gaze is nervously fluttering around, though it's not like it never returns to Gorgug's own. It's more that he seems to be having trouble holding it for an extended amount of time while his brain is scrambling for the right words. ]
I've. Um. [ ... ] I have never said it before. [ That's apparently the thing that tripped Fabian's mind like that. Hard to have said it before in this sort of context when you practically have no dating history to speak of, after all.
It's not like he told Aelwyn that. Gods, that's an awkward snake pit all of its own anyway. ]
I suppose I-- I might not know the right time to say it. [ Fabian feels so awkward admitting to this. It's the kind of vulnerability he isn't good with, but maybe the fact he's trying so hard for Gorgug here is saying I love you more than any words could.
Fabian wouldn't try to work through his own vulnerability so openly for just anyone, after all. ]
But I-- I love you too. [ A slight pause, and then, so quickly and flustered: ] Ifyoudon'tthinkthat'sstrange.
[ He's being so cool and normal right now, Gorgug!!! ]
[ There's a half-hum, half-groan coming from Fabian - who has managed to press himself against Gorgug's skin so much that his mouth is definitely just resting against said skin and letting out noises from there, muffled against Gorgug.
It's hard to tell if it's meant to be affirmative or not. Hardly an answer to Gorgug's question. But Fabian turns his head for long enough to speak more audibly and clearly. ]
He is-- was an alright guy. Maybe just a little bit cool, I suppose. He has some sort of hunting job with his brother back where he comes from. [ A slight pause, a sigh, and then-- ] He mostly did not seem to bother to try to-- oh, you know, Gorgug. It's like when Jawbone talks to us. When old people are trying to be the adult around us. Dean wasn't like that.
[ Fabian dramatically rolls over onto his back. Not enough to no longer be touching Gorgug, but there's just a little bit less contact now. ]
But camp has changed him.
[ This is such a melodramatic story, Gorgug. You better be feeling it. ]
I do hope this isn't too personal of me, but I know that Gorgug has gone and I wished to check up on you. I know how close you were with him. Please let me know if you need anything.
Staring at the text feels.. strange, for more reasons than one. There's the big elephant in the room of Gorgug suddenly having disappeared from this place, sure, but there's also the thought of someone just.. checking in on him?
It feels weird. Fabian isn't used to it. For a bit he doesn't even know how to respond, and it means that hours and hours go by before Loki will finally find a response to the text being sent to him. ]
i don't really need anything
[ .. okay, that doesn't really feel good to send back. Not only that, anyway. Loki is checking in on him, and that's-- uh. Weird? Nice? Fabian isn't sure yet. ]
[If he's honest, Loki isn't even sure if he's expecting a response. He's hoping for one for sure. He's worried about Fabian. Loki knows what it's like to lose someone you care for deeply. He worries about it daily now that he has Hob, though he tries not to let it bother him too much. Loki doesn't want to let those kinds of intrusive thoughts ruin his enjoyment of the moment.
But it can be rather difficult sometimes. Right now being one of those times. It isn't just that Loki can identify with losing someone, but also that he has lost someone as well. He considered Gorgug a good friend and he will miss seeing him around.
Loki has pretty much accepted that Fabian is not going to message him back when his device pings. He frowns as he reads the first message. It doesn't ease when he gets the second. It really has nothing to do with what Loki wants. He's asking what Fabian wants, but he knows the younger man well enough to know that things are not so straight-forward with him.]
I am available if that is something you wish. I do not want to intrude if you prefer to grieve alone. But I would like to make sure you are alright.
[ There's a slight moment between replies. Mostly because Fabian has to stare at that last line with a baffled expression on his face. What does that even mean? Loki doesn't want the same thing to happen to him? Is that a thing people express???
He snaps himself out of it enough to send back: ]
no one told me it i just know it because i am smart i have never seen anyone around me miss someone else it's not something people do
[Loki has no idea if that's something people express, but it's something he expresses. He's come too far and changed too much not to try and pass on everything he's learned. Besides, he actually likes Fabian and wants him to know he'll be there if he needs or wants.]
This has very little to do with intelligence. And I can say that I miss people, so someone around you very much has. And I know I am not the only one. I understand not wanting to speak about it, but if by any chance you do, at any time, I am available.
[ Baffled. It's not even Fabian pretending to try and seem tough - not when it comes to this, anyway. He seems genuinely surprised people missing other people is.. something that happens, apparently. Somehow. ]
I do, yes. Do you not? When I cannot see someone I have enjoyed spending time with, knowing I cannot speak with them as I wish to? Yes, I miss lots of people actually.
Have you never wished to see or speak with someone you have not in a long time?
[Loki has met all sorts of people, and seen many more. He has never met anyone who has never missed someone before.]
[ Fabian thinks about his friends, ever since he's been stuck in this place. About the way he feels about Gorgug now. About the intense longing he's felt for his parents such a long time, even far before he ended up in this place. Back when he was stuck in a house that was far too big for him, all by himself.
There's no reply for a moment. There might be an indication that Fabian is typing, but then the message seems to be erased again before he actually sends it.
Then, yet another moment later-- ]
you're meant to simply assume they are doing well without you
